Hello everyone! It’s Ian Robb again and I wanted to do a short recap of the previous Regional and what changes for my top plays going into Portland. To start off, the first major change from this previous weekend is that Charizard ex is the most dominant deck in the format. With Azul Garcia Greigo winning San Antonio Regionals with Charizard ex/Pidgeot ex, and Grant Manley finishing in the Top 4 with the same 60, Charizard is now the deck that you have to respect the most. This means if your deck cannot beat it, then your deck is no longer viable. This means that decks like Miradon ex need to tech for it with cards like Tapu Koko ex and/or Path to the Peak in order to compete against Charizard ex variants. Along with this, Snorlax Stall is a deck that you need to respect. After getting two into the Top 8 of San Antonio, the deck will likely continue to pick up in popularity. The final major change from San Antonio is that Giratina VSTAR is going to increase in play, with two making Top 8 and Grant Hays getting second place with the deck. With a strong matchup against both Charizard ex variants and an extremely favorable Snorlax Stall matchup, Giratina will likely see another bump in play rate. Now that we have gotten this out of the way, let’s get into the top decks for Portland.
