Hello everyone! It is Ian Robb and today I am going to be writing about my top two deck choices for Louisville. Going into this event, we have had three major events to go off to project what the metagame is going to look like. The biggest winners so far have been Lugia VSTAR, Dragapult EX, and Terapagos EX Dusknoir. Each of these decks have been so far dominating the metagame and it now gives a baseline for what decks to play going forward.
Charizard EX Pidgeot EX’s weak performances so far has been surprising. It was expected to be one of the top performers in this format and it was already one of the best decks. The main reasoning for why so far it has not been performing is the weak matchup it has against Dragapult EX. With Dragapult EX increasing in meta percentage as the format evolves, it makes Charizard EX Pidgeot EX a slightly less appealing deck to play. It does not mean it is a weak deck, but it is the reason why it has not been performing.
What is the meta going to look like at Louisville?
Going into this event, I expect there to be five decks ahead of the rest of the pack in popularity. Raging Bolt EX, Dragapult EX, Terapagos EX (all non Palkia VSTAR builds), Charizard EX Pidgeot EX, and Lugia VSTAR. Each of these decks have either been historically popular, or can be projected to be popular going forward because of how new it is along with it having strong performances recently (Terapagos EX). One of the biggest fallers in popularity is Regidrago VSTAR. It is in my top three plays for the event, but I do not think that its past popularity will be holding up.
